Sony and AT&T unveiled the Xperia TL smartphone, an Android device featuring a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and a 4.6-inch 720p HD display. According to Sony, regardless of the company’s highly anticipated PlayStation 4 (code-named “Orbis”) launch, Sony will still support the PS3 for at least three more years. Apparently, Sony is going to continue supporting the PS3 for as long as there is a development interest still in existence. Sony reports that there are a lot of great games coming. While we’re still waiting word on the PlayStation 4, Sony has announced a revision of its PlayStation 3 console. The company announced that its new CECH-4000 model, scheduled to release this fall, will be 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the previous model and will also ditch the slot-loading optical drive in favor of a disc-tray that slides open sideways.

Photos of Sony’s Xperia J mid-range smartphone have started to trickle out on Taiwanese site ePrice, and so far the new Xperia device looks pretty similar to the Sony Xperia smartphones. The key difference is that the Xperia J seems to have more curved edges around its outer frame, making it somewhat more stylish than previous models that were simply flat slabs.

Sony is planning to introduce an 80-inch flagship XBR LED TV. It will be the largest XBR TV Sony has ever offered, and it will include a 4K-resolution display. The estimated retail price of Sony’s 80-inch XBR will be around a whopping $30,000, and we could see an introduction as soon as this coming holiday season. Sony’s decided to out details on PlayStation Mobile, it’s upcoming cross-platform gaming service. Sony apparently has a new Xperia Tablet in the works, ready for release at this month’s IFA 2012 show in Berlin, that is if the latest string of leaked photos turn out to be the real deal.

Sony confirmed that an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update is soon headed to the Tablet S and Tablet P. The devices will receive an Android 4.0.3 update next month, however it is sketch whether this is only for the Japanese market. Sony Mobile just released a video showing their new floating touch screen technology on the SM Sola smartphone. The new technology allows you to hover over the screen to move a virtual mouse pointer around, and when links are highlighted, you can then tap the screen to click on it.

The Z series now sports a Carbon Fiber Silver option, and have LTE 4G radios as customizable options.
