Strategy Analytics on Friday published new research showing that Apple had become the No.1 overall handset vendor in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2012 with shipments of 17.7 million units, good for a 34% share of the American handset market. It looks like Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy Note, the Note II, will come pre-loaded with dual-SIM capabilities. Although details are still very scarce at the moment, rumor has it the dual-SIM Note will only be available in China and, aside from the slot additions, all other features the Note II offers appear to be exactly the same.

Samsung has announced the first Windows 8 smartphone dubbed the Samsung ATIV S. At just 8.7mm thin, it sports a brushed aluminium chassis along with a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display. The Corning glass on the front is actually the new Gorilla Glass 2, which is thinner but stronger than previous makes.

Samsung and Dropbox just announced that anyone who buys the new Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Camera will get 50GB of free online storage for two years. The Dropbox app will come pre-installed on both devices and the Galaxy Note II will automatically sync photos and videos to the service.
